Managed Security

  • • Security Operations Center (SOC) term is being taken over by physical surveillance companies.  Data collected from NOC’s logical components i.e. OS Syslog/event logs, IDS logs, IPS logs, PID logs, Firewall logs, Pen Test Logs, PCI, NetFlow is to build the security history; therefore, SOC and NOC should complement each other and work in tandem.
  • IPG is well aware of how to collect, analyze and distribute Data collected to support Client’s Defense in Depth Strategy. Key ingredients of Defense Strategy are i) Analysis Engine, ii) Knowledge base Engines, iii) Reaction & Report Engines that involves following:
    • Preventing Network, Host Based Attacks

Wireless Survey Methodology:

A predictive survey should be performed before any equipment or furniture moved into a new space. It relies on a software package designed to predict how wireless signals propagate through empty space. The input is a detailed set of blueprints and information on the type of wireless equipment proposed, such as which Wi-Fi standard will be used in the area.

The goal of a predictive site survey is to determine where to place access points (APs) for the best performance in allocated area. Virtual APs are placed on the blueprint, and the software determines signal strength based on information about how signals propagate through walls and around cabinets and desks. The types of applications that will be used in the area should also be a factor — e.g., heavy video use requires high throughput, while VoIP calls don’t require high throughput, but do require tight limits on latency. Skipping the predictive survey will result in guessing about the number of APs needed and where to place them. Despite general rules that dictate the number of APs needed for each increment of floor space, they don’t account for application performance requirements.

  2.  Passive surveys collect information about all the signals in the environment after the site is built.

Passive surveys should be performed periodically after the site is built, equipment is installed, and the network is in active use. The goal of a passive survey is to report on all signals at each location, including the installed network and signals from neighbouring sites or other devices that generate noise at wireless frequencies. These surveys report information on APs and their characteristics, signal strength, signal-to-noise ratios, and interference and may reveal a marginal performance change before users notice it.

  3.  Active surveys focus on a specific signal or set of signals while the network is in full operation. Active surveys focus on a specific signal or set of specific signals and produce an extensive list of measurements for each AP that generates a studied signal. These measurements include signal strength, throughput, round-trip time, packet loss and retransmission rate throughout the area where the signal is used. Active site surveys also measure upstream and downstream data rates and may result in moving an AP or adding or removing an unneeded AP.  Active surveys should be performed when investigating performance problems.

Cloud Managed Services

IPG dominate in cloud migration marketplace. We as an IPG analyze i) “What to Migrate” ii) “How to migrate” and iii) “Where to migrate”. We validate current state and inventory of migration. Gain a 360-degree view of infrastructure, application, and their relationship. We integrate between Single and Multi-Cloud environment as per the need and customer’s demand i.e., migrating entire application at once OR migrate component by component OR Service by Service keeping their dependency load in view.

IPG’s gauge his migration by Establishing Performance Baselines that ultimately leads to Customer Satisfaction. KPI’s in the Performance Baseline involves i) User Experience, ii) Infrastructure Performance, iii) Application / Component Performance and iv) Business Process Engagement to complete the cloud migration.

We follow “Data Migration Best Practices” that draws Cloud Governance Plan under the umbrella of Enterprise Governance Framework (EGF):

  • Review Application Resource Allocation
  • Setting Up a Migration Team i.e. not limited to Migration Mangers, Migration Architects, Cloud Developer and Cloud Security Gurus.
  • EGF Checklist:  Strategic Alignment & Planning, Enterprise Requirements and Demand Management, Prioritization and Focus, investment planning, Portfolio Management, Acquisition and Legal, Business enterprise architecture, Resource allocation and Funding, Program management/ PMO & Execution, Compliance, Security and Risk

What is a hybrid cloud?

A hybrid cloud—sometimes called a cloud hybrid—is a computing environment that combines an on-premises datacenter (also called a private cloud) with a public cloud, allowing data and applications to be shared between them. Some people define hybrid cloud to include “multicloud” configurations where an organization uses more than one public cloud in addition to their on-premises data center. ·

  • Control—your organization can maintain a private infrastructure for sensitive assets or workloads that require low latency.
  • Flexibility—you can take advantage of additional resources in the public cloud when you need them.
  • Cost-effectiveness—with the ability to scale to the public cloud, you pay for extra computing power only when needed.
  • Ease—transitioning to the cloud doesn’t have to be overwhelming because you can migrate gradually—phasing in workloads over time

What is a private cloud?

The private cloud is defined as computing services offered either over the Internet or a private internal network and only to select users instead of the public. Also called an internal or corporate cloud, private cloud computing gives businesses many of the benefits of a public cloud – including self-service, scalability, and elasticity – with the additional control and customization available from dedicated resources over a computing infrastructure hosted on-premises. In addition, private clouds deliver a higher level of security and privacy through both company firewalls and internal hosting to ensure operations and sensitive data are not accessible to third-party providers. One drawback is that the company’s IT department is held responsible for the cost and accountability of managing the private cloud. So private clouds require the same staffing, management, and maintenance expenses as traditional datacenter ownership.

  • More flexibility—your organization can customize its cloud environment to meet specific business needs. ·
  • More control—resources are not shared with others, so higher levels of control and privacy are possible. ·
  • More scalability—private clouds often offer more scalability compared to on-premises infrastructure

Two models for cloud services can be delivered in a private cloud. The first is infrastructure as a service (IaaS) that allows a company to use infrastructure resources such as compute, network, and storage as a service. The second is platform as a service (PaaS) that lets a company deliver everything from simple cloud-based applications to sophisticated-enabled enterprise applications. Private clouds can also be combined with public clouds to create a hybrid cloud, allowing the business to take advantage of cloud bursting to free up more space and scale computing services to the public cloud when computing demand increases.

Ekahau Wi-Fi Survey in University in Dubai, UAE

Introduction and Overview:

IP Global helps businesses build and maintain high-performing Wi-Fi networks. Businesses of every size. Including the world’s biggest brands and events, use the software and hardware products to design, validate, optimize and troubleshoot their Wi-Fi.

Ekahau Site Survey (ESS) is an easy-to-use design, verification, and troubleshooting tool for Wi-Fi networks. It has been developed for all wireless engineers, from systems integrators to IT administrators. It runs on laptops and tablets running Windows (including Mac using Bootcamp).

The purpose of a wireless site survey is to look at the feasibility of each individual wireless link to provide seamless connectivity for networked video using a mesh network, Wi-Fi, cellular, or point-to-point high-bandwidth wireless backhaul.

University in Dubai, UAE are upgrading their existing access points and other signal sources for signal strength, interference, and access point (AP) coverage in Dubai. An Access Point (AP) on stick Ekahau Site Survey is needed to be performed for upgrading existing wireless networks such as adding additional APs. The University is looking for optimal wireless coverage and performance with the minimal use of equipment.

IP Global, in collaboration with its service partner, is in charge of carrying out the Ekahau site survey at several locations.

IP Global has given the client on-site engineering assistance to enable the technology update and project coordinator resources to orchestrate the delivery of the solution; IP-Global, as the service provider, has successfully completed this project.

In the event of unforeseen absences, IPG has undertaken its best commercial efforts. The backfill or substitute engineers must fulfill the same skill set standards as the Service Partner. IPG provides technicians with Background Verification checks in order to comply with local hiring rules.

The project has 4 planned stages

Stage-1: Ground Walk

Stage-2: Access Point (AP) on Stick Ekahau Wireless Site Survey

Stage-3: Documentation and validation

Stage-4: Propose a solution to any problem

  • Ground Walk is performed to validate the initial plan provided. The plans must be scaled with a laser distance meter if measurements are not included in the plans.
  • Photos of the building’s interior and exterior to get an idea of the site as well as possible mounting solutions for new APs (if required). Outside storage areas were photographed as well.
  • A passive survey for both 2.4 and 5GHz was performed with the Ekahau toolkit. The passive survey covers all areas in scope, inside and outside the building.
  • In the documentation phase, AP locations are marked on a separate copy of the floor plans. Photos of each AP with its indication are also part of the provided survey report.
  • A complete site survey report is provided after the successful completion of the survey.

Challenges addressed by IP-Global:

Working in sensitive environments for a renowned customer like the University is always a challenge, but IP-Global has always provided the best 24/7 services and fulfilled client deadlines to create a decisive victory.
Since this was a construction site, there was a major power outage. As a service provider, IP-Global ensured that the universal power supply (UPS) was arranged on time and that the project was completed on schedule.
When working with costly and delicate instruments like Ekahau, it is critical that the tools utilized are well-calibrated and arrive on-site on time. The AP was not in the autonomous mode and it was a challenge to convert it to the autonomous mode. IP-Global field engineers being highly skilled and professional took an initiative and converted the AP to the required autonomous mode themselves.
